My buddy Jake got a piece in the hippest art opening of the year:
Gallery 1988’s
I Am 8 Bit exhibition, where slick modern artists present their take on video games! I got VIP’ed by being a gallery neighbor, a patron, a game industry professional, and, well, honestly, being at the table when Jake showed up to get his wife Yoko in.

Long long line to get into the show
Finally, something worth living in LA for, right? I’ve been way into the I Am 8 Bit shows since before I realized my apartment is around the corner from the right gallery.
Friends were there. We met people. We walked to get some vegetarian food afterwards. Amanda and I drank beers and played Guitar Hero at my place. And look, there was this scruffy, not-mainstream-aspiring band playing on the street!
For one night only LA was Austin, except with art!
A few days earlier, however, I made the mistake of leaving my windows open on a windy day. LA just gushes grime into your home on these occasions, which pools on the floor and coats everything like a dustbuster in reverse.
I ask what’s next, swarms of pestilence? Dismembered babies raining from the sky?
Even so, it was a good enough night to cut through my current trend of being all down on LA.
